One of my dear friends is expecting her first little baby.  To say that the rest of us share in the first-time-parent excitement is an understatement.  We. could. die.  I cannot wait to meet this little bundle…he/she could not have picked a sweeter mom and dad.

As soon as I hung up from the initial “guess what” phone call, I have had foxes on my mind (no one particularly likes/dislikes foxes) and I have no idea where this came from but I am going with it.  I feel like if I put it on paper, I can finally stop thinking about it.  So here is a fox inspired nursery!

Holidays

We had the sweetest little christmas this year for two.  I loved every second!

The week before we had sis and Cam for a week full of touring cute neighbourhoods, shopping, eating, cooking and manic felting.  I am sorry to say that I barely took a photo.  Here is one of the only photos:

Under close supervision by sis, I decided to felt E a new stocking…unfortunately I slightly underestimated the time commitment.  On christmas eve  it was soaking wet but finished!

and a postcard from Seattle:

How adorable is Jamie Oliver and fam:

We are at home enjoying a quiet Sunday morning complete with pancakes (anal retentive ones compared to Oliver’s standards) and our tree.  I am thrilled my sis and Cam will be here tomorrow…and hoping we can get involved in some serious knitting projects.  I am completely taken with these little felted slippers via French Press Knits:

Although I have only ever made a scarf and regardless of my sister’s proximity to me at the time, feel my knitting abilities will never be at this level, they do offer a free pattern here.

Mum’s here for the week and she is determined to fit in a little education for her youngest.  Seeing as it would be fair to describe me as a hopeless baker (did I mention I am not good at following direction?!?) we planned a day of baking.

I chose to make Cinnamon Swirl Rolls (therefore increasing my odds for success-burn one and there are eleven just like it)

ta-da!  Not so bad.

Mum turned out to be quite a fast baker, so this is the only “before” I could capture of her no fail Tassajara Bread:

after:

Mum gave me a new coat for my birthday just in time for the first snow of the season (it is a little bit of a mug shot but you get the idea)

and E made a delicious Shrimp Scampi:

This year I approached jam making with a whole new confidence, complements of last year’s success in this department.  I was a one woman assembly line, happily trashing the kitchen as I went.  The recipe I used was from the Sugarlaws Blog.  Last year it didn’t set properly so we ended up using the (liquid) jam as a topping for pancakes and waffles…it was delicious.  I’ll be praying to the pectin gods for the next several days.

Finally, a picture of the amazing dinner E made last night:

kitchens

My dad and V have been talking about re-doing their kitchen.  Due to the small size of their current kitchen, they have been throwing around the idea of having little to no upper cabinets.  Have you heard of this before?  Since they introduced it to me, I have been seeing inspiration everywhere…
